The Importance of Christian EDM (CEDM)

A Global Culture That Cannot Be Ignored

When many people think of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), they picture substance-fueled parties or a modern-day hippie culture chasing spiritual experiences. While those elements do exist in parts of the scene, they do not define the whole story.

EDM is one of the most popular music genres in the world. Millions of people listen regularly, and a significant portion attend live events. In 2025 alone:

  • Ultra Music Festival welcomed approximately 165,000 in-person attendees, with millions joining online.

  • Tomorrowland drew around 400,000 attendees in just 2 days.

  • Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) hosted more than 540,000 attendees across its event dates.

That represents over a million people gathered in just 8 days—without even counting other major festivals like Electric Forest, Beyond Wonderland, and countless local shows happening weekly in cities across the United States (this happens DAILY in Colorado).

EDM is not a fringe subculture. It is a global movement influencing communities everywhere—including families, churches, and Christian households.

The Spiritual Reality Within the EDM Scene

It would be inaccurate to deny the challenges present in the mainstream EDM environment.

Studies, including research from the U.S. National Library of Medicine, have shown a significant rise in the use of substances such as LSD, ketamine, cocaine, and MDMA in electronic dance party settings. The culture can normalize altered states of consciousness as a pathway to connection, transcendence, or “enlightenment.”

Beyond substance use, certain events and artists openly draw inspiration from pagan, occult, or spiritually ambiguous themes. For young believers—or even mature Christians—constant immersion in that environment can blur spiritual boundaries.

Many families have expressed concern as their children adopt this lifestyle. The need is real.

But here is the crucial truth:

EDM itself is not the problem.

Music is a tool. Like rock, hip-hop, or rap, it can be used to glorify darkness—or to proclaim truth.

What Is Christian EDM (CEDM)?

Christian EDM (CEDM) is the intentional use of electronic dance music to share the love, truth, and gospel of Jesus Christ within EDM culture.

Rather than rejecting the genre, CEDM redeems it.

It recognizes that millions of ravers are searching for:

  • Belonging

  • Unity

  • Love

  • Purpose

CEDM boldly declares that these longings are ultimately fulfilled in Christ.

Why CEDM Matters

The EDM community is massive. It is influential. And it is spiritually hungry.

Ignoring it does not make it disappear.

Christian EDM exists because:

  • Millions are already immersed in this culture.

  • Many believers love EDM but feel spiritually conflicted.

  • Families are praying for prodigals caught in the rave scene.

  • The Great Commission applies to every subculture.

CEDM bridges a gap that few ministries are willing to enter. It reaches people who might never step into a traditional church but will attend a rave.

Offering an Alternative, Guiding Toward Christ

Christian EDM is more than music. It is a mission field.

It acknowledges the brokenness within rave culture while affirming the beauty of music and community. It offers a redemptive alternative—one that points ravers toward a saving faith and a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The question is no longer whether EDM culture exists.

The question is whether the Church will step into it with truth, love, and courage.

How to support the mission

There are multiple ways to support our mission! Following us on social media, support CEDM producers by listening to their music, praying over our team, spreading the word about our events, and donating regularly to the cause.

These all help expose the gospel to ears who are ready to hear as well as allow for more fellowship and discipleship within the EDM community
